The Oaks Family Ministries Teacher's Fellowship

Support the OFM
Teacher's Fellowship

Education is discipleship.

One of the passages that guides what we do at Oaks Family Ministries is Deuteronomy 6:6-7, "These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." It is our conviction that God has placed the responsibility for educating children squarely in the hands of families. This includes both education in spiritual matters, as well as matters pertaining to life in God's creation. That means that math, science, history, grammar, and all the other subjects are part of God's world and should be approached through a biblical worldview. If the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, surely that applies to geometry and physics as well as biblical interpretation and morality.

Just as the church plays in integral role in the life of the Christian, and the Christian family, we believe that there is a place for corporate education of children under the close oversight of their parents (sometimes grandparents as well!). Therefore, we support and encourage what has become known as "hybrid-model" education, which is a combination of homeschooling and corporate classroom learning. This allows parents to remain in the driver's seat of their child's education and enjoy some of the benefits of a classroom environment a few days per week.

To help support and encourage this model of education OFM is partnering with Oaks Classical Christian Academy through the OFM Teacher's Fellowship.  The nature of hybrid-model schooling demands that many parents are also teachers. In order to act on their convictions they sacrifice time that could be spent in other endeavors that might provide additional income for their families. Furthermore, most hybrid-model schools make an effort to keep tuition as reasonable as possible so that it is not an obstacle to entry. All of this means that teachers/parents who have committed to being actively involved in their children's education through hybrid-model schools often are only compensated through tuition credit.

The goal of the OFM Teacher's Fellowship is to provide a monthly stipend for hybrid-model teachers at Oaks Classical Christian Academy to help bless them for their commitment and hard work. All of these teachers are paying, through taxes, for services that they are not using nor is there a multi-million dollar pool of resources or "educational" lottery from which to draw funds. However, it is our belief that these teachers, who are committed not only to educating their own children, but also the children of other like-minded families are worthy beneficiaries of a financial blessing.

Will you partner with OFM to help bless and support these teachers?

Our initial goal is $50,000. This would allow us to award generous fellowships to some very deserving teachers.

We welcome monthly partners or one-time donors. Please know that every dollar given to the OFM Teacher's Fellowship will go directly to teachers. No administrative fees are taken out of this pool. Oaks Family Ministries is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization so every gift is tax deductible.

Q: How is "hybrid-model" different than a co-op?

There are certainly some similarities between a hybrid-model school and a homeschool co-op. Both are designed to support homeschooling families, and both have a high level of parent involvement. However, in a hybrid-model school the students generally come more that one day per week, the bulk of the instruction happens on campus for those classes, and the families pay tuition and have the option to drop-off their students. A hybrid-model takes on much more of the instructional load and operates more like a school than a co-op.
